Basement Remodel and Finishes FAQs

What are the benefits of remodeling/finishing my basement?

There are many benefits to remodeling or finishing your basement. A finished basement adds usable living space to your home. Finished basements can be hosting spaces, additional bedrooms, an office, or even a home theater. They also increase the efficiency of your home, as a finished basement provides better insulation than an unfinished one. A finished basement also adds value to your home, as the price per square foot matches the rest of your home.

What is the average cost of a basement remodel?

Generally, basement remodels for spaces under 1,000 square feet range between 50k and 100k. This cost accounts for foundational fixes, materials, subcontractors, tools, and labor to safely and efficiently complete your project. During the planning phase, we will provide you with an accurate proposal based on your unique scope of work.

Can you install egress windows?

Yes! Egress windows are an important part of finishing a basement. An egress window is a window that is large enough for a person to climb through in the event of a fire or other emergency. Building code requires egress windows to be at least 5.7 square feet and be used for any space used for sleeping or most finished living areas.

Do I need to waterproof my basement before finishing?

While it’s important for a basement to be waterproofed, we find that this is rarely cause for concern. We begin every project with a thorough inspection. In the event we do find something, we will resolve any problems before any further construction to prevent future water damage.

Do I need to hire an electrician or plumber?

No, you don’t need to hire an electrician or plumber. We handle the hiring and coordination of subcontractors to complete your project.

We only work with licensed and insured plumbers and electricians who have workers’ comp and warranties for their work.

Is there a way to bring natural light into my dark basement?

Yes! During the planning phase, we’ll work with you to build a custom layout and plan. If you want to bring more natural light into your basement, we can use egress windows, open layouts, and/or light wells to make your basement brighter.
